Beta Key Giveaway!

I have an extra Guild Wars 2 beta key (North America) waiting to be given away! This will be the final beta weekend before the official launch, and it will be packed full of new content to test. Both Asura and Sylvari will be playable this weekend, along with new maps to explore, and WvW improvements. Don't forget to try out the new minigame, Keg Brawl, that's what I'll be doing all weekend! Anyway, back to the beta key giveaway - I got ahold of an extra key that I won't be needing, and I know there are loads of people that still need a key. Since this blog is fairly new, and I haven't built a lot of website traffic yet, you should have a pretty good chance at winning, even with only one key to give away.

Enter by visiting and "liking" my Facebook page (sorry, it's lacking in content, just got it setup) or by sending an email titled "Beta Key Giveaway" with your first name (to announce the winner) to gw2comp@comcast.net. Your email won't be shared, it's just me, and it will be deleted when the giveaway ends. Limit one entry per person. The giveaway will end at 11:59 p.m. PDT on Thursday, 7/19. Each entry will be assigned a number, and the winner will be randomly chosen at Random.org. I'll contact the winner through Facebook or with a reply email, depending on the entry method. This Beta Weekend Event begins Friday, July 20, at noon PDT (GMT -7) and ends Sunday, July 22, at 11:59 p.m. PDT (GMT -7). Good luck!

The Guild Wars 2 release date has finally been announced! The date we've all been waiting for is ... August 28! They say there are plans for a final beta weekend in mid to late July. After that beta weekend, they'll begin plans for release.

Server Stress Test

In preparation for the next beta weekend event, ArenaNet is planning a server stress test for Wednesday, June 27th, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. PDT (GMT-7). Your characters from the previous beta event will be available for play during this time!

Anyone interested in warrior PvP, be sure to check out this video video by Ed Park, known as Taugrim. He's carefully laid out a ranged build for warriors, which sounds like a solid PvP build that could be loads of fun, and phenomenal in world PvP. Yes, I said RANGED warrior build! C'mon, this is Guild Wars 2, no one is pidgeonholed into a specific role, you no longer have to be limited to melee attacks to be successful as a warrior! Go ahead, try it, I promise you won't look like a noob.
 


This is another aspect of Guild Wars 2 that I'm really looking forward to, the fact that they have designed each profession in a way that doesn't force them into playing a specific role. Personally, I've never played an MMO with this design, and I wasn't sure I'd EVER see one that designed their classes in this way. Gone are the days of being the underdog in a fight because your role and abilities are so limited, Guild Wars 2 has turned this ideology on it's head by allowing so many varied playstyles within each profession. It's all up to you! What's that? You want a crazy and unique build for your character, too?? Go for it, give it a try!
