Engineers use a deadly combination of weapons, explosives, and potions in battle. Like elementalists, engineers cannot swap weapons in combat. Instead they use kits to provide them with different sets of skills while in combat.
Tool Belt: The tool belt increases the effectiveness of your skills. You can use it with grenades to create a barrage of grenades, explode turrets, use it to explode all landmines at once, or use it to improve your heals.
Backpack/Weapon Kits: Kits that grant you loads of abilites ranging from a flamethrower to elixir guns to kits using bombs, grenades, and mines. There's a lot of information that goes along with explaining these kits, far too much to list here, but I'll give some examples.
Let's start with the flamethrower. The flamethrower gives you a set of skills that can create walls of fire, deal area-of-effect damage, set enemies on fire, and pull enemies back into range if they try to run away! I want to play an engineer just to cause chaos with a flamethrower, though I fear that I would fail as an engineer because I would only use my flamethrower. Next up, elixir guns, which can cause area-of-effect damage or be used to heal and buff allies. Another kit uses bombs and explosives, mostly in close-range combat, but these explosives can also work wonders when you're running for your life!

Turrets: Turrets grant a range of abilities from AOE damage to healing to crowd control. You can only have four turrets in use at one time, and they all have to be a different type of turret. The turrets have an overcharge ability after they're dropped that can multiply their initial effect. An example used on the GW2 official site is of the thumper turret, that deals AOE damage initially, but can then be overcharged to knock down nearby enemies.
- Flame Turret - Deploy a turret that burns foes.
- Healing Turret - Deploys a turret that heals you briefly, then continues to apply regeneration to you and nearby allies.
- Net Turret - Build a net turret that immobilizes nearby foes.
- Rifle Turret - Build a rifle turret that shoots at foes.
- Rocket Turret - Build a turret that fires rockets.
- Thumper Turret - Build a high-health thumper turret that damages nearby foes.
